How it works

  1. Download the app.
  2. Grant the requested permissions.
  3. Create your secure account.
  4. Add a payment method via Paystack (R1 verification charge for authorization).
  5. Choose a plan at any time: Freemium, Plus, Premium, or Pro.
  6. Use 'Emergency' when needed: a 30-minute cancellation window starts immediately.
  7. If not canceled, continuous tracking begins; arrest is detected when you remain within ~150 m of a police station at a sustained low speed.
  8. The backend marks the arrest, calculates the fee (plan coverage rules apply), and creates an ongoing case.
  9. Nearby verified attorneys within 25 km are notified to accept your case.
  10. Track status, view your attorney’s contact details, and keep an auditable record until resolution.

What is the emergency service?

The Emergency service is a panic-like feature that ensures people who are arrested can get legal representation. It contacts an attorney on a client’s behalf.

How does the emergency service work?

If you think you are going to be arrested (e.g., the police have stopped you), you can press the red Emergency button. After pressing, you have 30 minutes to cancel the emergency if you are not arrested. If you are arrested (i.e., you do not cancel within the 30-minute cancellation window), the app will start tracking your location, provided location is enabled. Once we detect you are within a certain range of a police station and moving at a slow enough pace, we assume that is the station where you are being held. We then dispatch an attorney to that station.

How to use PocketLaw attorney (for attorneys)

Download PocketLaw Attorney, accept the required permissions, complete verification (practice number, FFC), and receive case notifications. Accept a case to view client contact details and detention location. When done, request resolution for admin review and payout.
